“The Walking Dead:” Episode 701 “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”

October 25, 2016

The world renowned AMC drama, “The Walking Dead,” is back in full swing, and after the riveting cliff-hanger that fans were left with eight long months ago, the action/horror show did not fall short of a stunning and grotesque re-entry back into the television spotlight.

Fans of the show did not know what to expect at the end of season six. Somebody died, but because of the way the death was filmed, viewers could not make out who it was. Thus, the period between seasons was a long one, and fans were left wondering which beloved character was killed for a long stretch of time.

Well, last Sunday night the wait ended. The show opened up with an uncomfortable feel, with all of our favorite characters lined up on their knees, one of them about to get the axe. A stressful game of “eeny, meeny, miny, moe” was played to pick the victim, and that was it.

Abraham was the one who was chosen, and he was the one to get brutally beaten to death by Negan, the new villain in the series. Negan used his favorite weapon to kill Abraham, his barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat, Lucille. Abraham’s skull was bashed in with blood and brains scattered everywhere; and yes, this was all shown on national TV.

Negan taunted the group, making light of their friend’s brutal death. Then, Daryl jumped out of line and punched Negan in the face. He was quickly detained, and Negan punished the group for Daryl’s misbehavior by killing Glenn as well.

Glenn has been a main character in the show since season one and his death has been felt in the hearts of fans everywhere. Probably the goriest moment of the night was when Glenn was shown close up, after being wacked upside the head multiple times by Lucille. The death of Glenn reminds “Walking Dead” fans that no one is safe, and any character can be killed off at any moment.

The rest of the episode was filled with Negan’s brutal methods of breaking Rick’s morals and sense of leadership. By the end of the episode, our group was left in the dust, with a new mission: produce for Negan. The threat of death is likely if Rick’s group disobeys orders, and the story is taking an uneasy turn for the worse, in terms of the prosperity that they are trying to find. We are reminded how lawless and crazy this post-apocalyptic world is, and that is why we love the show.

The season seven premier of “The Walking Dead” was nothing short of epic. It brought back the excitement and horror that fans of the show have been craving for months. Be sure to tune into AMC next Sunday at 9 p.m. to catch the next episode to this nail-biting drama.
