GSA Hosts Love Lunch for Wellness Week

By Jack Salz and Josh Santana

A Love Lunch was held today by SDA’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance club (GSA) as part of the Wellness Week celebrations. Clubs and individuals from campus came together to support the LGBTQ+ community. ASB provided a PA system so students could jam out to such classic’s as “Sweet Caroline” while they chowed down on some shared snacks.

Senior Ryan Fredericks, a member of the GSA club, was seen enthusiastically chugging a soda on the stage outside the PAC. Fredricks said she wanted to participate in festivities and support the LGBTQ+ community at SDA.

One of SDA’s pioneers of Wellness Week, psychology teacher James Hrzina, said, “[Wellness Week is] providing a way to promote health and mental and physical wellness in San Dieguito, and to also connect clubs and students in this community.”

Along with Hrzina, students and teachers of San Dieguito have taken major strides within the last few years to promote clubs and events that foster community along with mental and physical wellness awareness, using the old SDA tradition of Community Day and the ongoing Day of Silence to give a platform to the various ways in which students can seek and give support to one another.
