Britney Jean

Oops she did it again. World famous pop star Britney Spears just released her eighth studio album, “Britney Jean,” on Dec. 3. After an almost three year break from her previous album, “Femme Fatale,” Spears is back to debut 14 new and original pop songs dealing with the pitfalls of fame and personal loss.

“Britney Jean” isn’t really any different from her other albums. Each song has large amounts of fast tempo beats and auto tune. The lyrics aren’t the most thought provoking and even though Spears described this album as her most personal yet, after listening to it, I would have to say that it really isn’t that personal.

The noisy background music makes it very distracting to even distinguish what she is  singing about, but from what I heard, her lyrics were just average. For example, her song “Don’t Cry” included the cliché lyrics “Hide your tears and dry your eyes/Cause I don’t wanna see you cry…”

The album featured a few cameos with singers such as will.i.am, T.I., and her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears. One of the songs called “It Should Be Easy” featuring will.i.am sounded exactly the same as her previous song with him called “Scream and Shout.” Some popular songs are “Work B**ch” and “Perfume”.

If this album had been her first, I honestly don’t think she would have become as famous and successful as she is now. The dance and techno beats are okay for a few of the songs, but if she was trying to convey the message that this album was “about the loneliness of pop,” I don’t think this album fits the standards that she was hoping for. I love Britney, but this album just wasn’t her best.
