Gwen Stefani “Baby Don’t Lie” Song Review

Gwen Stefani, the former front-woman of No Doubt, is back in action with an all new single since her sophomore album, “Sweet Escape.” The album Sweet Escape hit No.3 on the Billboard Top 200 charts and had the single, “Hollaback Girl,” which was a No.1 single that sold over one million copies in the United States.

The new single from her brand new album that will be coming out in early 2015 is the song, “Baby Don’t Lie.” The song was release with a video that took inspiration from “The Wizard of Oz” with a yellow brick road in the background and an army of dancers in patterns of black and white stripes, houndstooth, and pink. The video is very artsy and goes with Stefani well because of all the pop-art backgrounds and cartoony style to the video.

The video, animated and colorful, embodies Stefani’s personality and also captures the artsy features of the song well. The song is definitely a pop-hit, but also has sounds of reggae that Stefani always brings into her music. It has really simple instrumentals with a very calm bass line and relaxed lyrics to match. It’s a very conservative pop hit and if it weren’t for Stefani’s knockout vocals the song wouldn’t really make it to the charts to me.

The song has all the aspects Stefani has been showing for years now and doesn’t really stir away from her natural sound. It still keeps the pop sounds through the instrumental beat and catchy hooks. It keeps to her roots with the reggae inspired beats, but the thing that never changes is her vocals. She always keeps you interested in her music through the quirky sound of her voice that is makes all her songs interesting and original from any other female pop singers.

This single might not be everything we were looking for in a solo Stefani return, but it gives us hope that the album will be one to look forward to in the upcoming year. The music video shows just how eccentric and original I hope that the rest of the album will be and I hope that there will be another song off this album that will be a chart-topper for Stefani.
