What to Look Forward to for New “Sherlock” Season

September 30, 2016

Mr. Holmes will meander his way back to BBC America as season four of “Sherlock” premieres in the beginning of 2017. While much remains a mystery regarding the upcoming season, a few clues have been revealed. This past weekend, titles for the first two episodes were released.

This year’s Emmy’s, held on Sept. 18, awarded the Best Television Movie award to “Sherlock,” and the show’s aficionados are ecstatic about the upcoming season. Season four will still feature Benedict Cumberbatch as an arrogantly hilarious Sherlock Holmes, and Martin Freeman as John Watson, his loyal sidekick.

Season four will also reference the stories originally written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The first episode will be titled “The Six Thatchers” and will be rooted in Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons.”

In the original tale, Sherlock goes after a murderer who shattered six plaster busts of the French revolutionary leader. However, the title for the upcoming episode also references former prime minister of the UK, Margaret Thatcher, a conservative, who like Napoleon was a strong nationalist. Some speculate that this episode will include vandalism of sculptures that depict Thatcher, and ultimately crescendo to a murder.

The second episode will be called “The Lying Detective” and is expected to reference “The Adventure of the Dying Detective” where John Watson has an opportunity to return to his medical background as he cares for “dying” Sherlock Holmes. “The Lying Detective” will welcome a new villain, Mr. Smith, who will be played by Toby Jones. Season four promises to be great one!
