The first forum meeting on Sept 15 brought a crowd of about 35 students and staff, as well as three graduates from last year. The forum is a place for students and staff to meet and discuss issues around campus. The items discussed included the new school board, community projects and ways to improve homeroom.
Junior Derrik Marrow and seniors Alex Rosengarten and Sam Housekeeper introduced the idea of having the school board members come to SDA to give them a chance to showcase their ideas. Here students could submit questions and get answers to what they want to know.
Marrow also suggested school community service projects. He recommended a beach clean up at Moonlight after school. Details would have to be worked out, but most students were open to the idea.
Students discussed efforts to create closer environments in homeroom. Students said they did want homerooms to be families and just want to do homework and sleep. Others wanted more events like a possible Homeroom Olympics. Another possibility was a homeroom block party to allow neighboring homerooms to get to know the classes around them.
