NHS Hosts Food and Clothing Drive

The San Dieguito Academy National Honor Society (NHS) began their food and clothing drive this week. Student members visited homerooms to announce the drive and give some information about it, as well as left boxes and bags to hold donated items. The drive will end next week on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Senior Katie Wimsatt, an NHS officer, said that “all types of clothing [are welcomed], but preferably winter and waterproof clothing.”

The items will be collected and donated to the Community Resource Center and to support Feeding America. The Community Resource Center was formed to provide “safety, stability and self-sufficiency in San Diego North County.”

They have four main programs devoted to helping different types of families all around North County. The Feeding America Program collects surplus food and donates it to food banks around the country. Their 60,000 food pantries and 200 food banks help provide food for one in seven Americans.

NHS does special type of charity act every year, usually in the form of a supply drive. Last year, they collected school supplies for students in need.
