A fire occurred outside of San Dieguito Academy’s woodshop room on Sunday around 3:45 p.m. The Encinitas Fire Department was notified by a passerby who tried to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but the fire had gotten too big at that point, said Jim Mickelson, Battalion Chief of the Encinitas Fire Department.

“There was a conex box, which is a large metal box, outside the main building, and it’s full of pieces of wood. Next to it is what appeared to be a storage bin filled with wood and somewhere in that area, a fire started,”Mickelson said..

Bonita Drive was blocked off by police cars while the firemen worked to extinguish the flames.

“The fire did not extend into the primary structure, but we cut a couple holes in the conex box because the wood is piled in there and some of the wood started to burn inside the box because the fire was so hot outside, ” Mickelson said. “There was no smoke inside the building and no fire damage in any way,”

The initial cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the fire prevention officer of the Encinitas Fire Department.
