Track vs Torrey Pines

On Thursday March 30, San Dieguito Academy raced Torrey Pines at the Mustangs home track. Although both boys and girls lost, he track meet was good practice and a tough matchup for SDA, going against a school much larger and competitive school.

The highlights of the meet were the boys 100 meter race, with senior Nick Haghani finishing first, boys 400 meter race with senior Weston Swincicki winning, and boys 800 with senior Jack Romero finishing with a three second lead.

The meet started off with the girls 4×100 relay, which was a close race but Torrey Pines took the lead and finished first with SDA following close behind.

Next was the boys 4×100 relay, with San Dieguito winning after three close legs against the Torrey Pines team, but TP’s fourth runner fell and broke his collarbone during the last handoff.

The girls 1600 meter followed next, with Torrey Pines finishing first and setting a fast pace for San Dieguito to race against.

Boys 1600 was next, with a very close finish between SDA’s senior Ross Urbina and Torrey Pines Michael McMahon. Torrey pulled ahead during the last 300 meters, but Urbina hung close behind finishing in 4:34.66.

Senior Ross Urbina held off Torrey Pines in the 3200, winning by four seconds.

The finale of the meet was the girls and boys 4×400 relay race, with San Dieguito finishing second out of seven teams in both races.

Although San Dieguito didn’t win a majority of the races, the Mustangs raced as hard and as fast as they could.
