Iga Swiatek won the French Open this year. Swiatek is 19 years old and was born and raised in Poland. Before winning the tournament, she was ranked at number 54, but after winning the French Open, she is now the highest-ranked teenager in women’s singles at number 17 in the world.

Every year, I was watching how Rafael Nadal lifts the trophy, so it’s crazy that I am in the same place,” Swiatek said during her trophy presentation.

When Swiatek was younger, her father, Tomasz Swiatekl, wanted her to do an individual sport. She started swimming but ended up quitting. Swiatek eventually decided to follow in her sister’s footsteps in playing tennis. Iga Swiatek had played many tournaments, but the French Open was the biggest one she had ever won.

In the final round of the tournament, Swiatek played Sofia Kenin from the United States. After one hour and 24 minutes of playing her match, she beat her opponent 6-4, 6-1 in the French Open finals. Kenin says that her leg was struggling, but it would still be difficult to match against Swiatek even if it weren’t.

Swiatek won the tournament without losing a single set throughout all her matches. Winning the French Open was a monumental victory for Swiatek because she knew how far she had come. Swiatek was elated to take the win for her and Poland.
