On Jan. 16, regents of the University of California (UC) school system agreed to expand their online education programs, hoping to have 10 percent of students’ courses (four courses) generated online.
The possibility of creating an entirely online school that will give UC transfer students the chance to obtain a community college degree was discussed as well.
At the meeting, critics were skeptical about whether or not online courses would help alleviate UC’s space and money problems. Others worried that online courses would take away the on-campus college experience that consists of sports, clubs, teacher-to-student interaction and several leadership opportunities.
