Long Awaited Season Two of “Sense 8” is Out

Netflix has answered the prayers of fans of “Sense 8” and recently released the long-awaited season 2. Since June 2015 when people finished binge-watching the first season of the show, fans have been craving new content of their favorite sci-fi drama.

“Sense 8” follows eight individuals across the world who are “sensates.” They have a psychic connection that allows them to access each other’s abilities and thoughts. These eight individuals come from all over the world, but all face issues that are relatable to any viewer. The show looks at their individual lives and issues, and ties them into an overarching plot in which they struggle to find out what’s going on behind BPO, a biological research organization turned evil.

This season, the characters are introduced to new “clusters,” or groups of people who also have psychic links between each other. As they meet each new cluster, they try to recruit them into their army of psychic people to learn more about BPO and fight the “Whispers” who are trying to eliminate all the sensates.

The second season has done a great job of developing the characters by expanding on their backstories and giving them new goals and storylines. As for the overall plot, however, it’s fairly unclear what the relationship between the main characters and “Whispers” are like, and what exactly the motives for the “Whispers” or BPO are.

Despite the lack of elaboration on certain plot points, the storylines for each individual character are very captivating, pulling you through rollercoasters of emotions. The show also does a great job of talking about social justice issues such as sexism, racism, gun violence, religious intolerance, homophobia, and transphobia.

Like the first season, the show is plenty entertaining and suspenseful, but I wouldn’t recommend it to people particularly squeamish about blood, as there are a good number of scenes that feel unnecessarily graphic. Still, if you like sci-fi dramas with lovable, diverse characters and exciting episodes that keep you clicking ‘Next Episode,’ “Sense 8” is for you.
