Gangster Squad Movie Review

The new blockbuster “Ganger Squad” could quite possibly have you thinking twice about speeding next time, after witnessing the truly badass quality of the police.

1949 is alight with Tommy gun fire as a rag-tag group of policemen try to wrest Los Angeles free of gangster leader Meyer “Mickey” Cohen’s strangle hold. Based on the true story, the film resurrects Cohen (Sean Penn) as the classic gangster he was, reaching for control through corruption, drugs, and violence. Though LA is seemingly lost, Sergeant John O’Mara (Josh Brolin), former military man, lays down his badge and gathers the most unlikely of heroes into the throes of flying bullets, car chases, and calculated raids in what is seen as an attempt destined for failure.

The successes and failures of the group will have you riding that emotional roller coaster and some surprises may even have you haggling with the devil himself. With actors like Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone, to name a few, “Gangster Squad” truly delivers on its promise of action, love, drama, and heroics advertised in the mysterious and thought-provoking previews.

Will the gangster squad succeed in toppling Mickey Cohen? What is to become of Los Angeles? Will Ryan Gosling get the girl? I guess you’ll just have to see for yourself.
