Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Okay, so I LOVE Captain America. He is by far the most tragic superhero and therefore deserves the majority of my affection. Anyways, what this means is that I take everything that happens to Steve Rogers very seriously, and my expectations going into this movie were very high.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” isn’t so much about Captain America as it is about the inner-workings of S.H.I.E.L.D., the government agency behind all the superhero/alien related cases in the Marvel universe. The film focuses on the role of the government and asks how far it should go to protect people (In the case of this movie, flat out killing potential threats without a trial of any sort.) My favorite thing about the Marvel films is how they tie into each other, and let me tell you, the way this movie ends is going to lead to hopefully some really cool stuff for the Marvel movie universe.

As far as Captain America goes, this movie has a lot of Steve Rogers adapting to the modern world (His notebook on things to catch up on was a particularly cute touch.) These attempts to move on are interrupted by a “blast from his past.” It’s no secret that the so called Winter Soldier is Steve Roger’s childhood friend Bucky Barnes. This reappearance causes the expected emotional turmoil for Steve but also reveals a deep dark secret within S.H.I.E.L.D. itself.

Basically, I like everything about this movie. I like the characters. I like the story. I like Chris Evans’ face. In all seriousness, I really liked how this movie sets Steve up to start a new life. This movie definitely had some romantic undertones but ultimately it was about Steve making new friends (because all his old ones are dead/evil super soldier assassins) and figuring out his role in the modern world. I think this is super important for his character development and I’m really happy with how the movie handled it.

Go see this movie! I definitely will be seeing it again and I’m so excited for the next Marvel installment.
