New Teachers on the Block: Katherine Scott

A new addition to the science department this year is Katherine Scott. This is her second year teaching, having taught last year at Mater Dei Catholic High School. A USD graduate with a degree in biochemistry, Scott said that she found her passion for science in high school and has pursued that passion ever since. Scott’s time in high school was largely the reason that she chose to become a teacher, saying, “I really loved high school and I love that my job lets me relive it every year.”

However, Scott did have one small confession to make regarding her high school experience: “My students don’t actually know this yet, but I went to Torrey Pines. “ She explained that she attended Torrey Pines for two years before moving to the east coast due to her father’s job.  She is excited to be teaching at San Dieguito, saying, “I was drawn here because I really liked the reputation that SDA has of being a community.”

In her first two weeks here, Scott has been impressed by how “everyone here is insanely friendly.”  Scott says that she “can’t wait for Homeroom Olympics to start,” because her homeroom is “gonna win the whole thing.” Additionally, she is excited to participate in the Homecoming week Staff vs. Students football game where she hopes to lead the teachers to victory after two consecutive years of defeat.

Outside of school, Scott enjoys running, hiking, and baking. She says that she plans to use her baking skills to motivate her homeroom to victory in Homeroom Olympics. Scott describes her taste in music as “country, I absolutely love country music,” adding, “If I had to pick one song…on American Idol, I would have to go with ‘Honky Tonk Badonkadonk’.” Finally, Scott says that a movie about her life would “hopefully follow the plot of the movie ‘The Blind Side’ because I feel very strongly about helping foster kids.”

Scott looks forward to a good school year and is confident that SDA will be a good fit for her.
