Students and adults throughout the community attended a benefit concert headlined by Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman Saturday, Jan. 22 on campus. The event was put together by ASB to support an organization called Conner’s Cause. ASB brought in over $4,500 for Conner’s Cause, according to ASB advisor Rod Keillor.
ASB was offered the chance to run a fundraiser for a child with cancer that ASB had helped in the past. Seniors Madison Roberts and Maddie Scarlett volunteered to head the event but were redirected by the family towards Conner’s Cause “because they felt they were much better off than other families were,” said Roberts.
“It was actually very inspiring to see [the] family be so selfless in passing this fundraiser on to even more less fortunate families,” said Roberts.
“Connor’s Cause for Children is an organization that provides local San Diego County families that have a child that has a life-threatening disease [or] injury direct financial assistance,” said Roberts. The organization provides assistance with medical bills or medication, home care, or even travel during the child’s illness or time of injury.
In addition to Foreman, the event showcased musicians like alumnus Tolan Shaw, sophomore Ross Cooper, senior Austin Burns, and school bands Simple Green and Cuddle Dungeon.
School clubs held booths selling different items including drinks, baked goods, hot chocolate, and face painting. Art Club president Erin Nogle set up the Art Wall as well for event-goers to paint.
A silent auction was also held. “All of our very own school’s clubs generated baskets and other local businesses baskets as well,” said Roberts. The baskets were sold in the silent auction.
