Because of the reduction in the number of tardies from this year, the administration has lessened the amount of time a student must do Saturday school from four hours to two hours, said Assistant Principal Ryan Yee.
The change in the tardy policy requirements to get off the loss of privilege list will only apply to students put on the list during third and fourth quarter, said Yee. First and second quarter students on the LOP list will still be required to complete four hours to Saturday school, he said.
According to Yee, as long as the administration sees the numbers now being reached by SDA students, which went from about 30,000 a few years back to a fifth smaller this year, then the new two-hour requirement will stay the same. “Our goal is to improve and as long as we’re still seeing this trend of improvement [then the requirement can stay at two hours],” said Yee.
