Chargers Column Week Three

Inconsistency seems to be an appropriate word to describe the Chargers performance over the past three weeks in the season. They had an impressive win against the Philadelphia Eagles Aug. 15, a tough team to defeat. Unfortunately, they also suffered two losses to supposedly easy teams that many believed the Chargers would have no problem with. It appears that San Diego is still adjusting to the major changes made entering the 2013 season.

Fortunately, the Chargers have only just begun the new season and still have plenty of time to identify the gaps in their strategy and turn things around. One perfect example of San Diego’s defeat due to simple mistakes is the Aug. 22 game against the Tennessee Titans.  In the last minutes of the first half, the Chargers chose to kick a field goal from the 20 yard line. As the ball was kicked, one of the Titans special team’s defensemen managed to break past San Diego’s offensive line and block the kick. From that point on, the momentum of the Chargers seemed to go exclusively downhill.

This Sunday, the Chargers face up against the Dallas Cowboys, who are 2-1 so far this season. Both teams are similar in skill and standings, making it more of a push to get a leg ahead in standings or, in the Chargers’ case, a win to allow them to catch up.
