SDA Girl’s Volleyball plays La Jolla for a CIF win while Time Warner films the game.

Volleyball doesn’t really seem like a competitive sport on the court, but when it comes to the SDA crowd, it can get a little crazy. By the end of last  night my eardrums were shot and my voice was gone due to all the screaming and excitement from the crowd.  The girls volleyball team won 3-1 against the La Jolla Vikings the first round of CIF playoffs.

Throughout the game “S-D-ACE,” “LETS GO MUSTANGS,” foot banging, clapping, and other silly little chants were roaring through the stands to try and motivate our girls. Because there were cameras broadcasting the game for Time Warner cable, all the students had to give the cameras a little extra.

At times the chanting and screaming seemed a little obnoxious and distracting (there’s always that one dad that’s a little too into the game), but the Mustangs still pulled off a sweeping victory against  La Jolla.

To start off the game, the student crowd ripped up newspaper for confetti and threw all of it into the air, just for fun. At the end of the game, with one final point to go, everyone in the stands put up one finger waiting in anticipation for the Mustangs to win the final point. The ball was in a volley and then instantly spiked down and the game was over and everyone in the stands rushed the gym floor to congratulate the girls on their victory.

The game is scheduled to be shown on Time Warner Cable several times in the next week, the first time since 1996 that an SDA sports team has been broadcast on TV, according to the SDAFoundation.com.
