Boys Tennis Ends After Successful Season

On May 7, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, the SDA Boys tennis team captured the school’s first CIF tennis championship since 1988. The Mustangs knocked off the number three seed, San Diego High School, 12-6 in the division II championship to cap off their playoff run.
Coming in as the number four seed, SDA was able to defeat Mater Dei Catholic, Mira Mesa, and the top seed Helix on their path to the finals. Members of the team attributed much of their success to team chemistry.

“I think the key to our success was that we had a good mentality going into every game knowing that we could beat anyone as a team,” said junior Blake Stoner-Osborne.

This confidence resulted in the Mustangs finishing second in their league behind only Del Norte. However, next year, they will be changing leagues where they will play larger schools such as Torrey Pines and LCC.

“Next year we will be playing bigger schools but I think we have confidence from this year that can carry into the next and help us overcome any challenges,” said Stoner-Osborne.
