Cubs Win World Series After 108-Year Drought

November 7, 2016

It finally happened.

After a 108-year drought by the Chicago Cubs, they have finally won a World Series. They defeated the Cleveland Indians after being down 3-1 in the seven-game series and they overcame the odds and came back. And now Chicago is partying until they can’t anymore, but who can blame them?

This all started back in 2014, when the Cubs started their rebuilding progress to try and build an amazing team from scratch. After having a bunch of young talent, they needed one more star player to help carry them to victory. The Cubs selected Kris Bryant in the 2013 draft and this was what they needed. They made the playoffs in the 2015 season and were unfortunately knocked out in the NLCS to the New York Mets who went on to lose to the Royals in the World Series. After that season the cubs were determined.

In the 2016 season, the Cubs had the best record in the league and had more than four all-stars on their team. The best part about this team is all the infielders on the team are all stars and they are a force to be reckoned with. After their incredible season, it was time to take on the postseason and their first opponent was to be the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have a tradition where every even year, they win a world series, so with the Cubs not winning a championship in a 108 years, the odds were against their favor. But somehow, this team of young talent somehow defied the odds and beat their streak and now it was time for the dodgers to get the beat down.

The Dodgers series was relatively boring because it was mainly the Cubs destroying the Dodgers, which, as a Padre fan, was really fun to watch. Now it was time for the big one, the World Series. They had to play the Cleveland Indians who had the best record in the American League. After falling down three games to one, they had to defy all the odds and come back. And somehow, they shocked the world and made their way to a game seven, winner takes all.

Game seven of any championship is always fun to watch, but with this team’s history nothing was going to stop them. After an intense 10 innings and a 20 minute rain delay that felt like years, the Cubs were crowned champions and now it’s time to party. Even though I’m not a Cubs fan, it is always fun to witness history be made.
