SDA was honored with two awards – from the City of Encinitas and San Diego County – during  the Senior Farewell Assembly  Friday, June 9. Both proclamations declared June 9 as “San Dieguito High Academy Day.”

The award from the City of Encinitas was given in honor of SDA’s first commencement ceremony 80 years ago in the La Paloma Theatre with a graduating class of only 30 students. Alumni success and renovations over the years (including current construction) were  mentioned in the proclamation. Encinitas City Councilman and Class of 1977 alumnus Tony Kranz presented this award, said SDA Foundation Executive Director Leslie Saldana.

The County of San Diego bestowed SDA with the “2017 California Gold Ribbon Award” in honor of the school’s academic achievements, mostly regarding college readiness and ideals. Saldana said that it was presented by San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar.

Both proclamations are on display in the principal’s office.
