Dear University of California, Los Angeles

I have one question, why do classes start Oct. 2? It is completely ridiculous.

Sure, while I was in high school I never wanted classes to start, but I’m an adult now, sort of, and I want to start my grown up life. I like the quarter system, but could you please try to make your schedule more similar to pretty much any other university in the world. Seriously, most of my friends will have been at school for a month enjoying new experiences while I’m stuck at home because I cannot afford to jet off to Italy or some other place that is not where I have spent the last decade of my life. I love where I live, but come on UCLA, I want to leave already.

Not only will all my friends be gone, I went through so many hoops to get into your school and now I find out I have to wait even longer to get started. It’s not fair. I filled out a lengthy application, wrote two essays, and paid a relatively large sum of money to even be considered. Then a few months before college decisions were going to be sent out I get an email telling me to write two more essays because you want to know more about me. Add all that to the stress waiting for an answer from you and you should be paying for my anti-anxiety medication. After all that, I shouldn’t have to wait so long to actually be a student.

I want to start my new life at your school sooner rather than later, so for the love of all things in the universe: start classes before the month of Halloween.
