The SDA Outreach Club is conducting a homeroom sock drive which will be ending Jan. 25, Crazy Sock Day. The club has partnered with another organization, Mission Circle, whose goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of shoes while the Outreach Club is aiming to collect 1,000 pairs of new children’s socks, all of which will be given to children attending Mission and Laurel elementary schools in Oceanside.

The Outreach Club president, sophomore Katie Eliceiri, said, “Eighty percent of the people that we are helping are living below the poverty line. Anything we can do will be a major help to them.”

The club, founded this school year, has over 30 members who are devoted to helping the community. When asked about the goal of the club, Eliceiri said, “We want to help our community. The goal is to open up to kids my age because we don’t know what’s going on in our community and if we can help…it can make an impact.”

The homeroom that collects the most socks for the community will receive Homeroom Olympic participation points as well as a donut party provided by the Outreach Club.
