The 84th annual Academy Awards are set to air this Sunday, sure to bring about surprise wins and heartfelt speeches. With the slew of dramatic tearjerkers gracing the screens over the past year, it’s a sure bet that whichever wins will be a favorite among thousands. Nominees for Best Picture include “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” “The Help,” “Hugo,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Moneyball,” “The Tree of Life,” and “War Horse.”

We asked students:

Which movie do you want to win Best Picture?

Which movie do you expect to win?

Is there any movie,  actor, or actress that you wish had been nominated?

 

“I want “Moneyball” to win Best Picture because it’s about baseball and I love baseball. I don’t know which one will win because I only saw “Moneyball.” I wish “Fast and Furious 5” had been nominated because that was a sick movie.” –Sophomore Todd Petrassi

“I guess I want “Midnight in Paris” to win, it was better than “Moneyball” and I haven’t seen any of the others. I expect that “The Artist” will win because it’s silent and that’s super artsy. I can’t think of another movie that I really wanted to be nominated.” –Sophomore Griffin Knipe

“I think Octavia Spencer should win for her role in “The Help.” I saw only a few movies that are up for best Picture, but that one was definitely my favorite.” – Senior Mariko Kobayashi

“I think that “The Artist” will win, because it is so different from everything else out there.” –Junior Julian Dennis

“I want “The Help” to win Best Picture, but I think “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” will win. I haven’t seen all the movies, but the nominees are all people who I would like to see win.” –Senior Korina Castrejon

“I really want “Moneyball” to win Best Picture because it showed the true logistics of baseball. I actually expect “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” to win because I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.” –Senior Rachel Huddleston

“I think “The Help” will win because it’s an emotional tale about family and pride. I wish Cher was nominated for an Oscar for being Cher.” –Junior Solana Michael

“I think “War Horse” should win best picture, but I think “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close will.” I don’t have any opinion of what should have been nominated because I don’t pay much attention to the Oscars.” –Senior Kylie Nishioka

“I think “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” should win best picture because I’ve heard it’s really good. I bet “The Artist” will win, and think that “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” in 3D should be nominated because it was awesome.” –Senior Max Pruitt

“I think “Midnight in Paris” should win best picture because Woody Allen is hilarious. I bet “The Artist” will win. “We Bought a Zoo” should have been nominated.” –Senior Dane Barry

“I want “The Help” to win because it’s the only nominee that I saw and I really enjoyed it. I think “The Artist” will win because it got really great reviews. I think they should have more comedic nominees because the nominations are mostly drama movies.” –Sophomore Sara Portnoy

“I want “Moneyball” to win, but “The Help” probably will.” –Sophomore David Martinez

“I want “The Help” to win Best Picture because it was a very touching movie. I expect “War Horse” to win because it had a big impact on a lot of people. I wish a movie with Channing Tatum had been nominated because I love his acting and he’s hot.” –Sophomore Geneva Bandstra

“I’m not really planning on watching it, but I want “The Help” to win something. I loved the book and heard great things about the movie.” –Sophomore Sierra Zounes

“I don’t watch the Oscars anymore because “True Grit” should’ve won Best Picture last year.” –Sophomore Alana Primes

“I love watching the Oscars because it’s so awesome with the class and the bad puns. And  Anne Hathaway last year changed her dress like five times and each time I was like ‘Daaaaaamn girl!’” –Sophomore Manon Woghan

“I want “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” to win best picture because it looks like a really sweet movie; but, I wish Jim Carrey was nominated, he’s really funny.” –Sophomore Emily Machado

“I really liked “Hugo”; I thought they stuck to the book well. “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” will probably win because it’s about 9/11 and most likely gets brownie points for that.” –Sophomore Marissa Schuling

“I really want “Hugo” to win Best Picture because it was just a really fun and beautiful movie. I actually expect “The Tree of Life” to win though. I wished I could have seen Angelina Jolie nominated for something because she’s talented.” –Senior Carolina Diaz

“I really want “The Help” to win Best Picture because it was a really tear-jerking and intriguing movie. I actually expect “The Descendants” to win though. I wished “Harry Potter” had been nominated for something because it deserves some type of recognition. “ –Senior Valentina Calmo

“I don’t really watch the Oscars. I have no idea who will win. My general response is that I don’t care about the Oscars.”—Senior Katie Clinton

“Either “The Descendants” or “The Help” or “Midnight in Paris” should win. They were all very good, but I think “The Artist” will probably win because it sounded great. Taylor Lautner should’ve been nominated.  He was whiney in Breaking Dawn, but very pretty.” –Senior   Raveena Patel.

“I’d like “The Help” to win because it’s super good. But I think “The Descendants” or “The Artist” will win. They have a lot of hype. I don’t know who hasn’t been nominated yet.” –Senior Rachel Leonard

“I want “The Artist”, it seems like the most tasteful film nominated. “The Help”, because its seems that preceding award ceremonies are a good indicator of what will win. Liam Neason for “The Grey,” his performance was very intimate.” –Senior Cameron Koob

“’Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” even though I haven’t seen it, I just want it to win. I think “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” will win. Johnny Depp because I like “The Pirates of the Caribbean.’” –Junior Shawn Lee

“I liked “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” because it was a great psychological movie. I also think “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” will win because it made the audience feel connected to the character. I wish Will Smith had been nominated because he’s awesome.” –Junior Daniel Sullivan

“How ‘bout “War Horse” [as the movie I want to win Best Picture.] Is that one up? I heard “The Artist” was good.” –Freshman Audrey Nichols

“I’d like “Moneyball” to win because I really like Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt doesn’t star in bad movies. I think Brad Pitt is the most beautiful man in the world.” –Senior Stan Austin

“[I want] “The Help” to win [Best Picture.] It shows a historical time in a different view in an amusing and dramatic way.” –Senior Jenny Fisher

“I have no idea what movie, I haven’t seen any of them. I haven’t been to the movies in a very long time. I don’t know what to expect, and I don’t know any actors either, actually.” –Mario Rodriguez, Junior

“’Hugo” will probably win. I wish Adam Sandler or Seth Rogan were nominated. I want that guy to win.” –Jade Morgan, Freshman

“I think “The Help” should win for best picture because it was a really good movie and it was funny but also meaningful. There aren’t really any other movies I think should be nominated. I only saw like three movies this year…they’re really expensive.” –Junior Alyssa Navarro

“I want “The Artist” to win, it was so good! I kind of expect it to win, but I only saw that out of all the nominees so I’m kind of biased. I don’t have a favorite actress.” –Senior Desiree Otillio

“I hope “The Help” wins—it was such a good recreation of the book, and a great retelling of history from another perspective. I think “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” will win because it’s so personal. I hope Emma Stone wins best actress. She did a great job portraying her character, especially because it was a new role for her. She did a great job stepping out of her comfort zone.” –Senior Jenny Fisher

“I would like ”The Help” to win. It has a serious tone with some funny parts, and it actually teaches you something. It has a little bit of history in it too; it just sends a really good message. I don’t wantWar Horse” to win because it’s just about trying to survive a war. I just like movies with fairytale endings better. As long as Meryl Streep is nominated, I’m good for who I hope will win.” –Senior Elizabeth Jacobson

“I think “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” will win. I saw it and was in tears the moment it started. It’s really heartbreaking but also sweet, cute, and funny. It was a tearjerker, and it will definitely win something. I wish “We Bought a Zoo” was nominated. I liked it almost better than “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” It was also a tearjerker kind of movie, but in a good way. It was very feel-good and heartfelt.” –Junior Katherine Fidel

“The only movie I’ve seen is “Midnight in Paris,” but I wasn’t a huge fan, so I’m not sure which film I want to win. I think “The Help” is going to win. I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard good things. Everybody’s going to hate me for saying it, but I thought “Breaking Dawn” should have been nominated. It was pretty good.” – Sophomore Adira Fogel

“I’m not sure who’s going to win this year, I don’t really know any of the movies. I don’t know who wasn’t nominated, but I definitely don’t want Sandra Bullock to win anything. She was in a few bad movies.” – Freshman Dylan Hendrickson

“I guess I want “Moneyball” to win, ‘cause that’s the only one I’ve seen. It was a sweet movie, I think it’ll win. I don’t know who’s been nominated so I’m not sure who else should be.” – Sophomore Derek Rodgers

“’The Descendants” [should win an Oscar] because it was really powerful, and “The Help” because it had a really good message and a really powerful story.” –Senior Domenica Berman

“’Horrible Bosses” [should win an Oscar] because it was super funny.” –Senior Savannah Broderick

“Seeing as “Moneyball” was the only movie I’ve seen I’m going to have to say that’s the best one that will win. Bruce Willis should win honorable mention for his lifetime achievements.”   -Senior Max Pazevic

“I’m indifferent on who wins because I haven’t seen any of the movies, but if I had to pick I’d say “Hugo” because I’m a fan of the director. The “Tree of Life” sounds interesting too. Arnold Schwarzenegger should definitely win something because he could use some more limelight.”   -Junior Riley Rowe
