The Gift of Giving Blood

SDA students donated a total of 47 pints of blood at the ASB run blood drive on Tuesday. A total of 70 students signed up, surpassing ASB’s goal of 50 participants. However, many students weren’t allowed to donate due to issues such as recently having been in a foreign country, or having an illness.

Students gave blood throughout the day. The process involved being deemed eligible to donate, helpers holding the participants hand while they donated, and eating snacks to regain blood pressure.

“I gave blood today because I think that a lot of people need blood,” said senior Annie Goodstein. “I wasn’t feeling so hot, but they leaned my chair back and put some ice on me and started fanning me and telling me to cough, because they said that raises your blood pressure.”

Although giving blood can be an uncomfortable experience, participants feel it is necessary.  “I almost passed out a little bit, but it was ok. It’s worth it,” said Goodstein.
