Boys Volleyball: SDA vs. Foothills Christian

By Lindsey King, Staff Writer

Last night, SDA’s boys volleyball team beat Foothills Christian Knights in the Division 4 CIF quarter finals. The Mustangs were supported by a small but loud crowd led by senior Ty Gibson wearing his famous banana costume. The SDA Mustangs swept the match, winning the first three sets out of the possible five.

SDA controlled the first set, winning with a score of 25-10. However, the second set was more of a fight; the Knights rallied points in the beginning, gaining a big lead. As the Knights’ points neared 25, the Mustangs fought back. Leaving it all on the court, the front row taking big swings, the Mustangs came back to win by two with a score of 26-24. With the Mustangs up 2-0, in the 3rd set, they walked onto the court ready to finish off the Knights. A strong force at the net, SDA blocked balls left and right from the beginning till the end, winning the third set 25-9.

As the boys shook hands under the net with the Knights, the crowd cheered. Unexpectedly, as the Mustangs finished congratulating each other and thanking the referees, the players created a tunnel for the team to run through. After thanking the crowd for supporting them, the boys joined together for one last, “Go Mustangs!”

With this victory, the Mustangs are headed to the semi-finals and will either play against Orange Glen or Mount Miguel on May 21.
