Winter Formal

SDA held its Winter Formal at the San Diego Natural History Museum last Saturday. The Ancient Allure Egyptian theme was displayed with many models and pictures hung up throughout the venue. Among the many fun events that students could participate in were face painting, a photo booth, a dance floor and DJ, and a green screen that put you in the Egyptian backgrounds.

SDA Sophomore Quinn Sakihara loved the setting of this year’s Formal. “I really enjoyed how professionally the whole place was set up and how there were three floors with many activities,” he said.

The museum was  prepared with each of the three floors featuring a variety of fun activities and spread out the whole crowd of people.

However, Sakihara also added, “I thought it was cool that there was three floors but I think that if there was maybe a little less space than more people would have been on the main dance floor and it would have been a little less awkward.”

The museum setting also opened up its roof floor where students could go out with their dates or friends and enjoy some live music played by our own students. Sophomore Gabby Dicarlo and Senior Jack Van Cleaf both treated the large crowds of people in the roof area with live performances throughout the night.

The rooftop area was clearly a big hit among the student crowd. This Winter Formal also displayed the fan favorite chocolate fountain for students to dip strawberries, cream puffs, Rice Krispy treats, or marshmallows in. Both Sakihara and sophomore Jonathon Sabouri tried the fountain and acknowledged the constantly long lines.

When listing his favorite events, Sakihara said, “I think I liked the dancing obviously because the DJ was actually pretty good and I thought it was really cool on the rooftop to listen to our own students play.”

Sabouri agreed:  “I think my favorite part of the dance was the rooftop with the live music because it was just a nice and relaxing feeling.”

This year’s Formal seemed to be a hit among many of the students and Sabouri said, “I can’t wait for next year’s Formal and hopefully it will be as good as this one.”
