June Forum Report: 6/5/15

The final student-conducted forum of the year concerned the integration of next year’s incoming freshmen, this year’s Exhibition Day, Homeroom Olympics, and possible issues with parking and senior tiles as a result of the school construction.

Concerning the large incoming freshman class, forum participants suggested a more involved Link Crew, an organization that works to integrate new students into SDA, which should be active throughout the school year. They suggested that Link Crew members approach freshmen who appear lonely and advertise the many different ways students can be involved with the SDA community.

As for Exhibition Day, there were many complaints about the lack of food options, and suggestions for more interactive booths. To counter the selling restrictions during Exhibition Day, participants encouraged more student-selling during the Bazaar, another event earlier in the year that showcases student talent and creations. Many students asked for more organization with booths, including more tables, as well as grouping similar booths close together. There were also pleas for the return of the petting zoo.

Students also wanted Homeroom Olympics to begin earlier in the year, as well as have more consistent events spread throughout the entire year.

Students also offered up their opinions about the future location and placement of the 2016 senior tiles. In addition, they expressed concern with the lack of parking spots, as well as the difficulty when distributing parking stickers with such a limited amount of spaces.

The final forum of the school year was held on Friday, June 5 in room 93 during lunch. Student leaders Nate Neumann and Stacy Li conducted discussions throughout the meeting.
